2Oth & 21st September 2016 was historic in the annals of Students Leadership Support Organizations as we hosted Imo Students and friends from the neighboring states in a power packed, informative, educative and interactive leadership workshop aimed at human capacity building, development and preparing these young leaders for future leadership roles.
Theme: Nigerian Students, Leadership and the way Forward: Mind Power For Relevance.
It\’s important to note all over the world today, \”Leadership\” poses a great challenge to us and in order to tackle the challenges and proffer solutions, the organizers of the event deem it wise to gather opinion molders, Student Union Government Presidents and their executives, secondary school prefects,educationist, technocrats, religious groups leaders, legislatures for an interactive session.
It was also opportunity to train and develop our leaders. As the illiterate of the future is the person who has refused to learn. Abraham Lincon once said \” I will study and learn, perhaps my chance will come\”.
The summit was put together by Bureau of Student Affairs in Partnership with Arise Africa and support from Zanders Fm, Shirley Supremo Finishing Ltd, GCFN Consult and Govt House
The Student Leadership after the event signed a communique and agreed to work together with the government in order to ensure that the youths are steered away from negative influences
Chief Ugwumba Uche Nwosu – Chief Of Staff to the Governor while addressing the student leaders on behalf of Governor Rochas said;
\”Any leader who is a cult member is not a leader, leaders are descent in their speeches, they don’t speak vulgarly, leaders don’t show anger in their face, leaders are not arrogant, they are humble and gentle.
They don’t spread rumor, leaders embrace all and operate an open door policy\”
There above are some of the leadership qualities enumerated by the Chief of Staff, Imo State Government House.
Ugwumba Uche Nwosu told the students that a good leader is not expected to indulge him/her in acts that could directly or indirectly pull the people he leads down, adding that when leaders set goals. They don’t draw back on them. He said even when they are angry, leaders don’t show it on their faces, rather they keep smiling to encourage people.
He thanked the organizers of the leadership seminar and called for it to be made a regular (Periodic) event for leadership attribute to be imbibed on students and all younger ones.
Nwosu used the opportunity to remind them that education was still free in the State. He called on them to always reflect on the gains of the free education in the state in order to appreciate His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha in establishing free education in the State against all odds and sustaining it in the fact of the current economic downturn in the country.
He analyzed the effect of free education on the economy of the State which he noted that by 2011 before Governor Okorocha came on board and established free education, poverty rate in the state was 57 percent but with the introduction of free education, it kept reducing until it is currently below 19 percent because parents now use the huge amount of money they could have used to pay school fees to invest in other meaningful ventures.
Other dignitaries at the occasion who made remarks and supported the students financially included; Secretary to Imo State Government, Sir Judge Eche, Deputy Chief of Staff Operations, Engr. Kingsley Uju, Commissioners, Ugoeze Shirley Okwudimma, Principle Officer to the Governor on Marketing, Hon. Kenneth Emelu among others.
High point of the occasion was the unveiling of the student’s leadership magazine and cutting of the cake on the first day.
Other speakers on the first day includes: Mr Ken Obiaokor of Leadership Development Foundation For Civic Literacy, Ugoeze Shirley Okwudinma and Chief Mrs Getrude Ego Oduka – Hon Commissioner of Education.

On the second day
The event began with Ik Anyanwu of Arise Afrika/GCFN consult firing the first shot. He spoke on: Nigerian Youths, Leadership and the Way Forward
Youths, Education, Leadership and moral decadence was handled by Rev Fr Prof Philip Ogbonna followed
Dr Ben Eke spokeDeveloping Leadership Capabilities of the Nigerian Youths through Mentorship
Nature Dumale Kieghe shared on : Challenges facing the Nigerian youths as a result of Cultism, drug addiction and other social vices. He shared his story how he renounced cultism.
Pst Obi Iwuchukwu threw more light on the Mind Power For Relevance.
Rev Dr Mercy Ogbodo\’s presentation was on point and seem to speak the minds of all. topic : You can stop it: Sexual harassment in our Institution.
Dr Mike Ihezuo summarized the day\’s discussion by sharing on the way Forward.
Their was a choir ministration by Climax choir, Imsu Michael Jackson, Kristos, Rochas Foundation college presented a wonderful drama and the side attractions climaxed with a raffle draw where lots of people went home with fabulous gifts and prizes.
The event ended up with presentation of certificate of Participation and Special Recognition to all the people who worked to enable the success of the event.
During a brief media chat, Mr. Ikechukwu Anyanwu of GCFN Consult, officially Unveiled Arise Afrika Magazine. History was made as our passion, dream and vision came to pass.
