In a commendable effort to promote academic excellence and foster healthy competition, the Onugotu Obowu Foundation on 3rd November, 2023 organized the 4th edition of her Mathematics tournament for secondary schools in Obowo and Ihitte Uboma Local Government Areas. The event sponsored by Prof. Zeph and Mrs. Maryjane Okonkwo, took place at Obiri Obowu Otoko.
Each participating school presented two contestants. The event kicked off with accreditation of contingents followed by opening remark by the chairman of Education Resource Committee of Onugotu foundation, Barr. Edwin Onyeneho who welcomed the participants.
Dr. Godfrey Nneji, President of the Foundation, took the stage to narrate the remarkable achievements and contributions of the Foundation to Obowo LGA. Engr. Victor Ebiringa, representing the sponsors, Prof. Zeph and Mrs. Maryjane Okonkwo, emphasized the importance of mathematics education in our society. He pledged the commitment sponsors to continue nurturing intellectual growth and development in Obowo LGA.
The tournament was divided into two engaging sessions. The first session, was oral quiz, anchored by Mr. Udochukwu Nwoduh, as the quiz master. This session tested the analytical, quantitative and verbal reasoning of the contestants in mathematics. The second session featured a written examination, challenging the participants to apply their mathematical knowledge in a more structured format in different areas of mathematics.
The event was marked by an atmosphere of spirited competition as students eagerly demonstrated their mathematical prowess. The tournament not only provided a platform for students to showcase their talents, but also encouraged a culture of academic excellence and love for learning.
Other members of the foundation present at the tournament were Mr. Chidozie Chukwubuikem, who served as MC at the occasion, Sir Mike Okonkwo, Mrs. Ngozi Onuoha and Mr Jude Ehiri.
Each of the students present received souvenir gift of Onugotu customized excercise books and pen along side their transport fare. The teachers were also provided with logistics fare.
