PORT HARCOURT– Supporters of Blessing Fubara, a governorship aspirant under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Rivers State, have dismissed reports claiming that billionaire businessman Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs has emerged winner of the party’s primaries as “misinformation, false and misleading.”
In a press statement released on Friday, May 30, 2026, and signed by the NDC Supporters of Blessing Fubara, the group said the NDC Governorship Primaries for Rivers State are yet to be concluded and no official result has been released by the party or the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The statement was in response to online reports and social media posts with the headline: _“Billionaire Businessman Dumo Lulu-Briggs Defeats Gov Sim Fubara’s Brother to Win NDC Governorship Primaries in Rivers State.”_
According to the statement, “Any claim of victory by any aspirant, including Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, at this stage is premature, unofficial, and amounts to spreading falsehood.”
The group explained that delegates’ verification, collation, and final certification by the NDC National Secretariat and INEC are still in progress. It added that Blessing Fubara remains a bonafide aspirant and is participating in the process as prescribed by the party constitution and the Electoral Act.
While acknowledging respect for Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs and other NDC members, the statement rejected attempts to mislead the public with unverified claims. “Declaring winners before INEC and the party’s official announcement undermines democracy and the integrity of the primaries,” it said.
The group called on media houses, bloggers, and the public to disregard the report and urged the NDC National Working Committee, INEC, and security agencies to investigate and sanction peddlers of misinformation ahead of the 2027 elections.
It concluded that Blessing Fubara remains “focused, peaceful, and committed to the NDC ideals of service, unity, and progress for Rivers State” and will only speak through official party channels once the process is concluded.
