Aisha was born in Adamawa State on February 17, 1971.
She is the daughter of a civil engineer (her father) and a direct descendant of the Ankali family. It’s one of the most popular lineages in the North, well-renowned for their farming and textile industry dominance.
She also happens to be the grand-daughter of Nigeria’s first Minister of Defence, Mohammadu Ribadu.
Aisha is a graduate of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration. She also has a master’s degree in International Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna.
Professionally, she was the Founder/Managing Director, Hanzy Beauty Institute, a successful beauty salon franchise in Kaduna and Abuja.
Her enterprise did quite well, supported by the brilliant woman’s keen business sense and training in Cosmetology and Beauty from the Academy Esthetique Beauty Institute of France.
She is an active advocate of women’s rights in Nigeria. In the past, her work has involved a proposed legislation against early marriage, meetings with the mothers of the abducted Chibok Girls and a stance against sex trafficking.
Aisha got married to President Buhari in December 1989. The two have ten children together – five biological and five from Buhari’s first marriage to Hajiya Safinatu (nee Yusuf) Buhari.
