AMB. DR. GEORGE ANDREAS ADIKIBE. DFHS, FAISM
Amb. Dr. Adikibe George Andreas is an indigene of Umudim Okworji Ofekatta III autonomous community in Awo Omamma Oru East LGA of Imo State. He was born on the 23rd of November 1982 into the family of Late Mr. Andrew Eze Adikibe and Mrs. Rose Ugechi Adikibe.
He is the convener of the maiden Imo State Annual Stakeholders Conference on Ageing which took place on the 29th of October 2019 at the Imo Concord Hotels. He doubles as the Executive Director and founder of Geriatric Care and Vulnerable Support Initiative a non-governmental organization duly credited with the United Nations Open Ended Working Group on Ageing (UNOEWGA) under the President of the UN General Assembly, as well as partnering with the United Nations Economic and Social Affairs Commission (UNECOSOC). He’s equally the South East Coordinator of the Coalition of Societies for the Rights of Older Persons in Nigeria (COSROPIN), Nigeria’s foremost recognized right and policy advocacy body for the ageing population.
He is currently an infection Control and Prevention Specialist with the Canadian Red Cross, he is an Honorary Doctorate-fellow of the Institute for Humanitarian Studies and Social Development with background in Nursing, Healthcare Management, Public and global Health practices, spinning over 13 years of coordinating and implementing international development programs and projects in the humanitarian cum social intervention sectors.
He holds an international public policy facilitator certificate on geriatrics and gerontology advocacy from the United Nations International Institute on Ageing (Malta) and Dave Omokaro West Africa Institute on Ageing. He has credit to himself variety of diplomas and certifications from renowned foreign universities, which includes diploma in Strengthening Community Health Workers Program Harvard University (USA), Epidemiology the basic science of Public Health, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (USA), Disease Screening in Public health University of Geneva Switzerland, Infection Prevention and Control in Healthcare Settings University of North Carolina Chapel Hills (USA), Communication in Global Emergency Emory University (USA), Project Management and Advocacy Berkey Business School University of California (USA) respectively, Addressing Cognitive and Behavioral needs of the Elderly Ohio State University (USA) and Proficiency in NGOs Management Institute for Humanitarian Studies and Social Development Nigeria.
He’s member to variety of National, Regional and International Organizations which includes Association of Care Service Providers for Older Persons in Nigeria (ACSPOPIN), Associate Fellow Institute for Humanitarian Studies and Social Development Nigeria, Gerontology Association of Nigeria (GERAN), Nigerian Institute of Safety Professionals (NISP), Nigerian Red Cross Society Imo State Branch, Africa Palliative Care Association (APCA), Stakeholders Group On Ageing Africa (SGA Africa), Africa Civil Society Engagement Mechanism (ACSEM), Fellow Africa Institute of Strategic Managers (AFISM), Institute for Healthcare Improvement (USA), International Federation on Ageing (IFA) with headquarters in Canada and Global Alliance for the Rights of Older People (GAROP).
A distinguish Humanitarian who have been appointed to serve in various capacities, and has facilitated a handful of achievements which included but not limited to the following, member Imo State ad-hoc planning committee on the commemoration and celebration of the 2019 UN International Day of Older Persons in the State. Facilitated the development and adoption of a 10-year Strategic Partnership on Ageing between the Imo State Government through the Ministry of Gender and Vulnerable Groups Affairs and Geriatric and Vulnerable Support Initiatives for the advancement of ageing development in the State. Convener of the maiden Imo State Annual Stakeholders Conference on Ageing 2019, bringing together stakeholders for the advancement of ageing development and care of Older Persons in Imo State. As a national Executive, he facilitated the development and adoption of a strategic policy document (MOU) between the Coalition of Societies for the Rights of Older Persons in Nigeria (COSROPIN) and the National Human Rights Commissions (NHRC) Nigeria for the inclusion and protection of the rights of Older Persons as part of the vulnerable groups under the National Human Rights ratification and domestication Act with all its enormous Privileges.
A distinguished Humanitarian, who\’s love for humanity and passion for the vulnerable population has contributed greatly in precipitated the consciousness of government and other stakeholders to their duties and obligation to the society. For the First time in the history of Imo State, he facilitated and achieved a groundbreaking advocacy which gave older women in the state a voice during the yearly Imo Women\’s August meeting 2019. He’s humanitarian benevolence has been felt in various communities across Imo State and beyond with the crusade of right to healthcare services for all especially pregnant women, children under 5 and Older Persons in abide to achieving Universal Health Coverage in Nigeria, through his numerous medico-social programs in rural communities among low income families.
His drive for Humanitarianism and act of philanthropies has since earn him numerous awards and recognition, among are Humanitarian Peace Ambassador 2019 awarded by World Humanitarian Organization of Peace and Equity (WHOPE), Meritorious/Commendation awarded by Institute for Humanitarian studies and Social Development Nigeria amongst others.
Amb. Dr. George Andreas Adikibe is a distinguished humanitarian who has to his credit a handful of policy articles published in reputable journals, and his research works use as public policy, public health and social development guide for both policy makers and the academia.
