The National Patron of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), Ugwumba Uche Nwosu said that the Youth Assembly of Nigeria is an instrument for building peace and unity across the country.

Ugwumba uche Nwosu, who is also the Founder and President of the Ugwumba Center for Leadership Development in Africa made this declaration at the Nasarawa State Government House in Lafia during the Inauguration of the 3rd Assembly of the group led by Rt. Hon. Shuabi Sani.

He informed that through the activities of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria, unity and peaceful co-existence are being fostered among youths from across the country as the group has structures in all the 36 States of the Federation plus the FCT as well as in all the 774 Local Government Areas across the country.

According to the youth empowerment enthusiast, “Nigerian youths comprise 43.58% of the total population of the country. This means that the youth population constitute almost half of Nigeria’s total population. However, it is worrisome that the youths who are indeed the future of the country are not found on the round table where decisions concerning the running of this country are made. Long before we were born, the saying that “youths are the leaders of tomorrow” has always been there but the question now is, when will this “tomorrow” come for the Nigerian youth?

What we need to save the future of this country is mentoring from our leaders. That is why I am particularly involved in this Association as a National Patron. Within this YAN family, we are changing the narratives. We have become an instrument of peace and unity across the country. We careless about our different religions and tribes and see ourselves as belonging to one big family, called Nigeria!”

The National Patron urged the new National Speaker, Rt. Hon, Shuaibu Sani and his Executive to emulate all the good attributes of the outgoing Assembly led by Rt. Hon. Godstime Samuel that kept the body going beyond ethnic and religious lines.

He said, “today, you have become the leaders of over 50 million Nigerian youths. So, this is your opportunity to leave a lasting legacy that will speak for you in the future. You have to key into the programs of our leader, President Muhammadu Buhari, who has rolled out several job creation and enterprise development programs for Nigerian youths. As I speak with you, the government through the CBN has mapped out several billions of naira to support youths who have ideas that can be transformed into business ventures.”

He concluded by saying that “as the National Patron of YAN and President of the Ugwumba Leadership Center, that both organizations have become partners and would work together to harness all the opportunities available for youths in this country and beyond.”

The event which took place in Lafia, the seat of power in Nasarawa State had the Deputy Governor of the State, Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe and other members of the cabinet in attendance.
