For over three decades in Imo State, one can hardly recall a commissioner passionate about human capital development as the current Commissioner for Tourism. The proactive Honourable Commissioner for Tourism of Imo State, Mazi Uche Ohia (PhD), believes that there is a direct relationship between the standard of an organization and members of her workforce. He understands that during crises, leaders don’t build fortress around themselves. They go out to keep hope alive…
The Honourable Commissioner for Tourism gave an account of a uniformed staff when asked where the restroom was; after a brief thought, he replied ‘Madam, you need to book a room to enable you to rest’. Mazi Uche Ohia (PhD) was left with no option but to see how he can better the lives of such persons in the industry. He decided to reach out to EVETTE INSTITUTE OF CATERING & HOTEL MANAGEMENT, a reputable institution that has trained high quality personnel in the tourism and hospitality industry.
The Honourable Commissioner for Tourism, the Perm Sec of Ministry of Tourism, Imo State and heads of departments requested that Evette Institute develop a short programme to bridge the knowledge gap. The Director of the Institute, Mr. Kelechi Anyanwu, assured the Honourable Commissioner and his team of the Institute readiness to work jointly with the government to empower the citizenry. He further commended the Honourable Commissioner for Tourism on his drive to make Imo State the pinnacle of excellence in Tourism. When people are coming up with various excuses for non-performance, he is charting a new path.
Mazi Uche Ohia (PhD) during the facility tour thanked the students for the vision of acquiring skills that will sustain them and help build the economy. He promised to reward those that came tops of their courses at the end of the session. He equally thanked the management and staff of the Institute for receiving him and his team.
