Chike Olemgbe Emerges Speaker, As Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu Returns As Deputy
The 10th House Of Imo State House Of Assembly has been inaugurated with Rt Honourable Chike Olemgbe (APC), Member Representing Ihitte/Uboma State Constituency emerging Speaker and Rt Honourable Amarachi Chyna Iwuanyanwu (APC), Nwangele State Constituency returning as Deputy Speaker.
The inauguration took place at the Assembly Complex on Friday 16/06/2023, following an earlier proclamation by His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, the Executive Governor Of Imo State.
The ceremony which was supervised by the Clerk and Head of Legislative Service, Imo State House Of Assembly, Chinelo Adaora Emeghara Esq, saw the official swearing-in of 27 Members-elect who are representing the 27 Local Government Areas of the state . Mr Clerk performed the Roll-call exercise of the 27 Members-elect , after acknowledging that the CODE OF CONDUCT process had been completed by the Members-elect.
Thereafter, Mr Clerk conducted the election for the positions of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, after the provisions of the House Rules on nomination of Presiding officers was read out load as prescribed by the same House Rules
Hon Azodo Vitalis Ndubuisi (ACCORD Party) Member Representing Ideato South State Constituency nominated Hon.Chike Olemgbe for the position of Speaker, while Hon Comrade Augustine Ugochukwu Obodo(APC) , Member Representing Owerri Municipal State Constituency seconded it. His nomination was not challenged. Hence, Mr Clerk declared him Speaker.
In the same vein, Rt Honourable Amarachi Chyna Iwuanyanwu, who served as the Deputy Speaker in the 9th Assembly, was returned unopposed as Deputy Speaker, after he was nominated by Hon Chief Sam Nkem Otuibe (APC), Member Representing Ahiazu Mbaise State Constituency, and was seconded by Hon Modestus Osakwe (PDP), Member Representing Isu State Constituency.
Thereafter, Rt Honourable Amarachi Chyna Iwuanyanwu was given the opportunity to address the floor, wherein he pledged to continue in his legislative responsibility, not only to the people of Nwangele State Constituency but to the State Government and the people of Imo State. According to the prolific legislator, ” I will not only be an impactive and responsive lawmaker, I will continue to be the Stabilizer and a man of Capacity”. He also commended the State Governor, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, for his impact in the lives of Ndimo, through human oriented leadership, which has continued to receive local, State and National applause”.
He was declared Deputy Speaker and was administered (1) Oath of Allegiance (2) Oath of Membership of IMHA and (3) Oath of Office as Deputy Speaker of IMHA.
Rt Honourable Chike Olemgbe was also administered 1) Oath of Allegiance (2) Oath of Membership of IMHA and (3) Oath of Office as Speaker of IMHA. As he assumed his seat and position as Speaker, and by his directive, Mr Clerk swore in the remaining 25 Members-elect . They took the…..

The New Speaker, Rt Honourable Chike Olemgbe, read his acceptance address, wherein he thanked and appreciated his Honourable colleagues for finding him worthy to be elected Speaker. He also thanked Governor Hope Uzodimma for his assistance and for bringing Hope and Confidence in leadership, through the provision of massive infrastructure and essential amenities to Ndimo, despite roadblocks mounted by issues of COVID-19, insecurity etc.
While accepting the huge responsibility thrust on him, he pledged that the 10th Assembly would be more eventful through more people oriented laws and collaborative relationship with the Executive Arm , for more dividends of democracy.
After his speech, Rt Honourable Chike Olemgbe announced that other Principal positions of the House would be announced later as he had not received letters from the parties communicating same.
Thereafter, the House adjourned till the 29th of June ,2023.
