Dr. Kelechi Onyegbule delivers a lecture at the British Council on EXAMINING THE AFRICAN HEALTHCARE SYSTEM: DIAGNOSING ITS SICKNESSES AND PRESCRIBING MEDICATIONS at the just concluded International Conference of the Medical Law Committee of the African Bar Association, held in Accra, Republic of Ghana.
The lecture by Dr. Kelechi Onyegbule interrogates the status of the African Healthcare System on the global page as other speakers from across the globe, including the President of the World Medical Law Association, Prof. Roy Beran, Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana, Learned Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Dean of Law, Prof. Josephine Agbonika and and other eminent jurists lent their voices to the burning concerns.
According to him, “…Africa is currently riddled with slaughter slabs and butcher houses in the name of hospitals. People walk into the facilities and don’t come out alive or the same. People have lost their loved ones to medical negligence and recklessness and no one is talking about it. The courts often do not have sufficient expertise to confront the issues when brought before them. People often describe these unfortunate incidents as ’The Will of God’. We have so many people living with injuries but cannot seek redress and that is why we are here.”
Dr. Kelechi Onyegbule is one the few Medical Law Experts in Nigeria and the Founder of Leeds Medicolegal Support Initiative and Leeds Legal.
He was Former Chief of Staff to the Former Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly.
