DON NKEMS OFFICIALLY UNVEILS MEDIAN EDITION OF IMO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL IN OWERRI AMID COMMENDATIONS

A bold step has been taken by a veteran Nigerian movie producer and foremost film marketer, Don Nkemdirim Chikezie, popularly known in the movie industry as Don Nkems as he officially lunched the median edition of the Imo International Film Festival in Owerri, on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at the Havana Cinemas, amid commendations.

The epochmaking and well attended event which attracted experts in the Nigerian entertainment industry; movie directors, film producers, representatives from Nigerian Film Censored Board, Director of Im Arts and Culture, Mrs. Assumpta Akujuobi, foremost filmmaker, Amayo- Ugo Philips, Zion Nwaigwe, representatives of the Executive Director of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), South East or Coordinator of the NFVCB, Hebert Odeh, General Manager of Havana Cinemas, Management and Staff of NTA, Director of KKD, Publisher of 4th Estate Reporters, Njoku Macdonald Obinna, among other critical stakeholders.

During the official unveling of the IFF at the Havana Cinemas , Owerri, the Executive Director of the Nigerian Film Festival and Video Censors Board stated that apart from creating lunching such laudable initiative, the Imo International Film Festival also provides a platform to celebrate the art of filmmaking, as film distributions have become veritable platforms for movie distributions, networking, career expansion, and knowledge sharing. And as regulators of the distribution business in Nigeria, the NFVCB will encourage the growth of festivals such as the Imo International Film Festival that emphasizes the potential of filmmaking for economic empowernment, the Executive Director concluded.

Speaking with Njoku Macdonald Obinna, the Publisher of 4th Estate Reporters, one of the media partners during the official unveling of Imo International Film Festival in Owerri, the founder of IIFF, Don Nkemdirim Chikezie -Don Nkems, a veteran Nigerian movie producer and ace marketer, had earlier announced the theme for the maiden edition as “ Film: A veritable Tool For Economic Empowernment “, stating that through a carefully curated program of workshops, screenings, and networking events, the festival will showcase the immense talents and diverse perspectives within the film industry.

The veteran filmmaker and marketer, Don Nkems, maintained that at Imo International Firm Festival they believe in the power of filmmaking as a catalyst for economic growth by providing filmmakers with the needed platform, resources, exposure and skills, aim at promoting the economic potential of the film industry, not just in Imo State and Nigeria, but also on the global stage .

Earlier announcing the date which is tentatively scheduled to hold in Owerri, the Imo State capital, between July 25 and 27, the Imo International Film Festival founded by Don Nkems, is a large platform for collaboration, networking, knowledge sharing and for career expansion.

The IIFF is poised to bringing films and filmmakers around Nigeria and across African countries to showcase the creative industry, movie stars, script writers, and emerging talents that have adorned our screens over the years also serving as a platform to celebrate the art of cinema. It however, intends to feature a wide variety of films from local, national, and international filmmakers, including many that have gone on to significant box-office success and multiple international awards nominations.

Before the unveling in Owerri, the Imo State capital, on Thursday, the project was officially lunched inside Nollywood Film Festival at the landmark Musa Yarauda Centre, Abuja, where A-list Nollywood actors and actresses where in attendance, including foreign diplomats from Mexico, the Caribbean, etc.
