In a celebration of excellence and dedication, the 10th edition of the Arise Africa Awards was held, honoring distinguished individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the development and progress of society. Among the awardees was Dr. Uche Ewelike , CEO of the Imo State Health Insurance Agency (IMSHIA), who was recognized for his outstanding leadership and the agency’s remarkable achievements.
The event was a gathering of notable personalities, leaders, and stakeholders from various sectors, all coming together to celebrate those who have exemplified commitment to the betterment of Africa. Dr. Ewelike’s award is a testament to his tireless efforts in transforming healthcare delivery in Imo State through innovative health insurance schemes.
Reacting to the award, the Executive Secretary/ Chief Executive Officer of the Imo State Health Insurance Agency; Dr Uchenna Ewelike showered Encomia on his Principal the Executive Governor of Imo State Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma for his enormous support and latitude towards the success of the Health Care implementation in the State.
He commended the Awarding body the “Arise Africa Awards” ably led by the coordinator Mr Ikechukwu Anyawu for his efforts in putting together the event and extra efforts in facts finding, as well as holding a transparent awarding process.
Dr. Ewelike went on to thank his wonderful team at the IMSHIA for their relentless efforts towards achieving agency set goals and readiness to work round the clock. He moved on to express his gratitude to National Health Insurance Agency as well as the Secondary Healthcare Providers across the State that have worked tirelessly to ensure that all referrals to their facilities have been handled with the utmost care required.
He remarked that the well trained Officers in Charge (OIC) of the various Primary Healthcare facilities alongside their wonderful team remain an amazing asset to the state’s Health Sector, further elaborating on the Live saving impact they have had on the implementation of the health scheme.
The Imo State Health Insurance Agency’s Executive Secretary Dr Uchenna explained that the implementation of Governor Uzodimma’s Health Insurance policy in Imo State has led to a massive decline in childbirth mortality rate across the state and has seen to the widespread access to care amongst the vulnerable in the State.
Dr. Uchenna Ewelike, highlighted the agency’s notable achievements, including the successful enrollment of over 120,000 Imo residents into the health insurance scheme, the facilitation of over 800 referrals for specialized care, and the remarkable birth of over 2,000 babies under the program.
Dr. Ewelike reiterated the agency’s commitment to delivering high-quality services and ensuring that the people of Imo State receive the best possible value for their participation in the program.
Under Governor Uzodimma’s reign and with Dr. Ewelike as IMSHIA CEO, the Agency has implemented several groundbreaking initiatives aimed at increasing accessibility to quality healthcare for all residents of Imo State. These initiatives have not only improved health outcomes but also garnered public trust and support for the agency.
