Dr Chimezie Amadi, Imo State Commissioner for Digital Economy and E-Government has given Imo youths what he termed “powerful skills” that can make all the difference for their future as 2025 approaches fast.

According to Amadi, everybody need to stay ahead as 2025 approaches, but staying ahead is not just about keeping up; it is about stepping up and preparing for what is next.

Amadi said that without Digital and Tech Literacy, nothing works. He stressed that these days, knowing a bit about coding, data analysis, or AI isn’t just for “techies.”

According to him, Whether you are diving into it for the first time or brushing up on your skills, this knowledge will be valuable no matter where you work.

Amadi said that Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is another skill necessary for survival. In his words, “Ever noticed how some people just get people? They can manage emotions, connect well, and stay cool under pressure. That’s EQ, and it’s becoming one of the most valued skills in any field. Practicing empathy and self-awareness can make you that person others want to work with.”

He said that Critical Thinking and Problem Solving is a rare skill that is highly sort out for. He added that problems are everywhere, but true problem-solvers are rare.

“Start questioning things, breaking down challenges, and hunting for solutions. It’s one of the best ways to stay invaluable.”

He specifically talked about Creativity and Innovation, adding that new ideas do not just change industries; they open doors.

“Creativity isn’t just for artists—it’s for anyone who wants to see the world a little differently. Challenge yourself to come up with fresh ideas, even if they seem wild.”

Amadi said that life moves fast, and the winners are the ones who keep up, stressing that Adaptability & Lifelong Learning is necessary and charged Imolites to make it a habit to learn something new, whether it’s each year or every month, to keep their skills sharp and their minds open.

He advocated for Digital Marketing & Content Creation, stressing that whether one is building a brand for himself or helping a business grow, knowing how to navigate social media, SEO, and content marketing gives one an edge. He added that in today’s world, visibility matters.

Amadi said that staying secure online is crucial, hence need for Cybersecurity Awareness which in his opinion is not just tech talk. He advised that people learn the basics to protect their own data (and their organization’s).

Giving out more points, Amadi said, “Communication & Collaboration – In a time when we’re connecting more virtually, good communication can make all the difference. People who express ideas clearly and build bridges are the people others remember.

“Financial Literacy – Finance isn’t just for the numbers people. Knowing how to budget, save, or invest can change your personal and professional life. Start small, and watch how this knowledge adds up.

“Customer-Centric Mindset – Behind every business is a customer. Developing empathy for their experience and understanding their needs makes you a powerful team member.

“Sustainability & Ethical Awareness – People and businesses alike are focusing on sustainability. By showing you care about eco-friendly and ethical practices, you’re showing you’re ready to be part of a better future.”

He further added that Leadership & People Management is crucial and stressed that even if one is not in a manager role yet, skills like motivating others, resolving conflicts, and leading by example are highly valued, as they are the qualities that set one up for future opportunities.

He recommended Project Management as another skill, stressing that knowing how to plan, organize, and deliver results makes one indispensable.

According to him, “You don’t have to be an expert—start by organizing small tasks and watch your project skills grow.”

Amadi said that Data is everywhere, hence need for the skill, Data Literacy. He added that those who can interpret it have the upper hand, as even basic data skills will help one make informed, powerful decisions.

He said that Resilience & Stress Management is necessary because”Long-term success” is about bouncing back. He urged them to practice stress management and resilience, so they are prepared to handle whatever life throws at them.

Amadi said that we are living in a global world, and being able to respect and understand cultural differences can help one work well with diverse teams and clients, hence need for “Cultural Intelligence” as a skill.

“Remember: You don’t need to master all of these at once. Start with one or two that feel right for you and build from there. 2025 is coming fast—let’s make sure you’re ready to shine.”
