Business Journal with Chuks Ineh

Sicilian Movies was my 1st production company established in 2004. I had nothing except a script I had written in less than 2 weeks. Due university experiences, my mind could not communicate better than to write the agony of the soul with a candid message. When I completed the writing, I gave it to a typist to prepare it for a professional look, afterwards, a graphics designer did a nice cover art. Since Owerri was not into movie production by then, I headed to Lagos.

On reaching Lagos without knowing anyone I started asking questions where to locate this movie people. I was duly directed to Surulere where indeed there were many offices so I met with a very great guy Chika Onu who was working then with Chico Ejiro, Zeb Ejiro’s brother. He received me well and saw the passion in what I was pursuing and told me that I need to get the funds and then we can easily produce the movie. He assisted in putting together a business proposal of about 2 million naira. I also met and interacted with Teco Benson.

I returned home to Owerri with the proposal, my own company letter head, a complimentary card and a customized envelope. I used my Uncle Emeka’s office address at Mushin as my Lagos office address and my mother’s shop address as my Owerri address. The only thing that was mine was my phone number and email. My friends rejoiced to see this great improvement towards the pursuit of my dream but the challenge now is how do I get 2 Million Naira to produce this movie? My immediate elder brother had a friend from University of Maidugiri who by chance was rich and he asked me to go meet him in Abuja and he might help with the production, thus my journey to Abuja.

I went to Abuja and was staying off the town at Gwagwalada (Gwags) at Acholonu’s house. While in his place, I was going into town often trying to see if I could convince anyone to consider my movie proposal while trying my brother’s friend number. The financial cost of going into town from Gwags was also painful and I was hoping to get someone that I could go and stay with in the heart of Abuja, luckily, I got a guy who used to live in Amakohia but his family moved to Abuja and he brought me into their family apartment at Gwarimpa.
Finally, I met with my brother’s friend at the airport on his way to Holland for a 2 weeks’ business journey and he assured me of sponsoring or being the executive producer of the movie when he returns, he told me he will call me once he returns. When he came back from Holland he did call me and I was so happy that I sponsored the strangers around me to have drinks on my head.
Life was full of hope, the excitement that I will have my 1st movie script produced knew no bounds but as the days unfolded and no sign of progress weighed in, I became more stranded in a faraway city. I had to move into the home of a very good stranger who was part of those who drank on my head. His name is Mohammed, from Kogi State and a Muslim. He assisted me until I tried to set up another business in Abuja, which I will address in the next journal.

Despite my journey from Owerri to Lagos, then Lagos back to Owerri and then to Abuja, I was not able to get an executive producer to have my movie made.
Today I have the resources and can partner with someone to produce my own movie, the dream has lingered up till date. Due to my experiences not getting anyone to support me, I have taken it upon myself to help as many people as possible to also produce their own contents with what I have.

Life has a way of preparing us to become who we are, that we may not get something we desire today does not mean the end of our dream but time can help us prepare better and launch a greater product.

Moment of Discovery with Pst Chux Amaechi: Leadership

\”Leadership is knowing that the critics will criticize you while still saying what needs to be said and doing what needs to be done. History doesn’t remember the critics. It remembers the one who withstood criticism to accomplish something great.

The keys are: Don’t let praise go to your head and don’t let critics into your head. Be so invested in your craft that you don’t have time to listen to the naysayers. No time for negativity. You’re too busy creating the future. I want to encourage you to never let the opinion of others define you and your future. Your identity doesn’t come from what the world says about you. It comes from who you are on the inside. Your work, leadership, and mission are too important to allow others to define your destiny.

No matter what anyone says, just show up and do the work.

If they praise you, show up and do the work.
If they criticize you, show up and do the work.
If no one even notices you, just show up and do the work.
Just keep showing up, doing the work, and leading the way.

Lead with passion\”.

BUSINESS START UPS AS AN ENTREPRENEUR by IK Anyanwu

STARTING YOUR OWN BUSINESS FROM SCRATCH A PAPER PRESENTED BY IK ANYANWU OF ARISE AFRIKA DURING UNIQUE ARISE AFRIKA SKILLS ACQUISITION TRAINING

BUSINESS START UPS AS AN ENTREPRENEUR

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen,

May I begin by thanking the Almighty God for his love, kindness and protections on us. We are all aware that a lot is happening today resulting that not all the people whom we said “Happy New Year” with at the beginning of the year are still alive. It is evident that our survival and life is purely at the mercy and grace of God.
It’s a great privilege to stand before you to make this presentation to re-engineer the mindsets of our youths as regards sustaining themselves in their immediate communities.  I stand here to encourage our youths to take up roles that would make for positivism and self sustaining abilities.  To put an end to this mad quest for white collar jobs and seek for ways of exploring/ leveraging on their entrepreneur skills
I see this as a golden opportunity to fulfill my dreams and life purpose which is to mentor and empower the youths.  Our vision is to educate, equip and empower our people.
A lot of global billionaires are being raised all over the world today THROUGH E – Entrepreneurship.
I appreciate my friend Tony Izunobi MD Millennium who made my standing before you possible by this contribution which is part of the issues we are going to discuss today.

WHY YOU NEED TO START
The world we live in today has changed so much that uncertainties are high. The  advanced economies like the United States of America in the last few years has been bad news and panic headlines in boardrooms, Globalization, outsourcing, downsizing, foreclosures, subprime mortgages and credit default swap, ponzi schemes, recession and so on.

In the first few months of 2009, a lot of US companies laid off up to 2,500 per month of people and employment rose to an all time high of 10.2 percent and under employment was far much worse. The frequent drop in number of people gainfully employed was frightening and very few people are immune from this trend. All carder of employed people were affected from banks to retail clerks. Executives, middle managers and blue collar workers were all endangered. The healthcare sector which was considered to be very safe had a fair share at downsizing.

In Africa the story is different unlike in the US were those that loose their jobs earn social security allowance, and live in council apartments, most countries in Africa do not have any provision for the unemployed. As I make this presentation in this quarter, the unemployment rate in Nigeria, which was the fastest growing economy in 2014 and the giant of Africa in terms of economic size , has reached an unimaginable unemployment rate of 48 percent. Many people like me lost their jobs. Be it in the banking sector or other private companies  due to changes in policies by the government.

The government was unable to pay arrears, some states had to cut staff salaries by 30 percent and a lot of others were owed over ten months salaries Had outstanding pension of over 12 months arrears, under employment was no longer news as the government minimum was per month was below N20,000

With inflation at 18.3 percent and the economy going through a recession and the G.D.P numbers has moved to -3 percent in the last quarter of 2016 from 6% in 2014.
The truth about all this is that, those that suffer the most in this kind of situation are not the owners of business. The victims of recession and inflation are those who earn salaries because they face the risk of being laid off, salary cuts, and shrinking incomes due to inflation.

During this global financial crisis, the investment port folio of Nigerians suddenly lost their value more than half and the real estate crashed. The investment that people had confidence in and reliable assets turned out to be as solid as water vapor, and the jobs that were considered secure were no longer secure.
It took a big financial crisis to bring the fore how people lively hood has been at risk.
But the truth of the matter is that your income did not become a risk overnight. It has always been at risk.

Most people that live on pay cheques are always on the edge between solvency and bankruptcy, mostly because they have little savings or sometimes no cushion at all.
The pay check trades your time for money, and during a recession, it is the least reliable source of income, because the GDP drops, unemployment will rise and there will be no disposable income to pay for your time.

The biggest economy in Africa in 2014 has gone into recession in 2016, this has caused a lot of other financial challenges that was mentioned earlier in my opinion caused by  our educational system failure  to adequately provide a realistic financial education programme for students.

The greatest strength of any paper asset is its ability to be converted to cash instantly and that is also its own greatest weakness. The stock market crash is cyclical in nature an we all know this, but how prepared are you when it happens again?
The financial crisis that hit America in 2008 was quite phenomenal, jobs were lost, people could not pay mortgagees, and houses were fore closed, properties sold at less than half their process.

In 2016, Nigeria Economy slipped into recession, the stock market became volatile, the foreign exchange rate of dollar to the Naira worsened  by more than 300 percent and prices of almost all goods and services doubles, foreign investors recalled their funds from the financial institutions, credit supply was abysmal and poverty level increased.

TIMES HAS CHANGED
As a child my parents taught me that to be successful, I had to go to school, study hard and get good results to enable me get a secure well paying job. Pursue a career with benefits and earn a pension there after But ties has changes, it was a good formula for success in the industrial age.

In Nigeria in the 80s and 90s people that retires from govt jobs had their gratuity and pensions paid regularly. As I speak my mother who retired as a Civil Servant has not been paid her pension or gratuity ever since by the government and Nigeria economy going into recession. I guess you can imagine what the future holds for her if she does not have investment in real estate. The Civil servants who are in the government jobs are now contributing part of their salary (7.5 percent) and the government  contribute another (7.5%) towards a pension scheme.
This money is managed by pension managers, who will invest this money in the money market and capital market with all the uncertainties associated with the financial sector.
The world we live in today has a lot to be angry about, is it corruption and inefficiency in the government or the mistakes made in the past for not taking control early enough?
All these make life tough, the question is, which way forward? Are you going to moan, and groan or blame the government, politicians, stock market or the multinational companies?
The best way to predict the future is to create it. You can take charge of your future only when you take control of your income. You do not have to fear the future but take steps to shape it. You need to develop your own business.

Dr Oby Ezekwesili lauds Charley Boy for demanding Rescue of Chibok girls

FG hasn’t done enough to rescue remaining Chibok schoolgirls  according to Charly boy

A popular artiste, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly boy, has accused the Federal Government of being insensitive to the plight of Nigerians, stressing that it had not done enough to rescue the remaining 195 Chibok schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram in April 2014.

Leading a handful of #BringBackOurGirls members in a march from the Unity fountain, Maitama, Abuja to the State House junction on Monday, the activist warned those in government to protect the citizens if they cared about their personal safety and well-being.

Charly boy, 65, walked for a few kilometres but was taken in a car to the Eagle Square where he alighted to trek the remaining metres to a spot near the Presidential Villa where he spoke briefly to journalists.

He admonished Nigerians to stop being docile and to challenge the government to wake up to its responsibilities, saying in pidgin English, ‘Our mumu don do,’ (enough of docility).

He said, “Any government that can’t protect its citizens is sitting on a keg of gunpowder; the government should rescue the Chibok girls, it should bring back the girls. If our safety is not guaranteed, then their (government officials’) safety cannot be guaranteed.

“My fellow frustrated Nigerians, you are too docile for my liking, what are you living for? I will rather die for something than live for nothing.”

A BBOG Co-coordinator, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili said the FG had maintained a defeating silence since October last year on the rescue of the remaining Chibok schoolgirls in Boko Haram captivity.

She challenged the government to rise up to its responsibility by rescuing or negotiating the release of the girls as promised by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ezekwesili lauded Charly boy for taking time out to demand the rescue of the schoolgirls.

Egypt : Bombing on Palm Sunday leads to loss of lives

38 Persons killed at Egypt Palm Sunday church bombing

The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for bombing two Egyptian churches as worshippers gathered to mark Palm Sunday, killing at least 38 people in the deadliest attacks on the Coptic Christian minority in recent memory.

The attacks followed a Cairo church bombing in December and came weeks ahead of a planned visit by Catholic Pope Francis intended to show support for the country’s Christian minority.

The first bombing struck the Mar Girgis church in the city of Tanta north of Cairo, killing 27 people, the health ministry said.

Emergency services had scrambled to the scene when another bombing rocked the Saint Mark’s church in Alexandria where Coptic Pope Tawadros II had been leading a Palm Sunday service.

Eleven people were killed in that attack, which the interior ministry said was caused by a suicide bomber who blew himself up when police prevented him from entering the church.

The ministry said Tawadros was unharmed, and a church official said he had left the church before the bombing.

At least 78 people were wounded in Tanta and another 40 wounded in Alexandria, the health ministry said.

Egyptian officials denounced the violence as an attempt to sow divisions in the country, while Francis sent his “deep condolences” to Tawadros.

IS claimed that its “squads” carried out both attacks, in a statement by its self-styled Amaq news agency published on social media accounts.

Images broadcast by private television stations showed bloodstains smearing the whitewashed walls of the church in Tanta next to shredded wooden benches.

“The explosion took place in the front rows, near the altar, during the mass,” General Tarek Atiya, the deputy to Egypt’s interior minister in charge of relations with the media, told AFP.

“I heard the blast and came running. I found people torn up… some people, only half of their bodies remained,” said Nabil Nader, who lives in front of the Tanta church.

The worshippers had been celebrating Palm Sunday, one of the holiest days of the Christian calendar, marking the triumphant entrance of Jesus to Jerusalem.

– Pope prays for victims –
Francis, who is due to visit Cairo on April 28-29, offered prayers for the victims.

“Let us pray for the victims of the attack unfortunately carried out today,” he said in an Angelus prayer.

“May the Lord convert the heart of those who sow terror, violence and death and also the heart of those who make weapons and trade in them.”

Copts, who make up about one tenth of Egypt’s population of more than 92 million and who celebrate Easter next weekend, have been targeted by several attacks in recent months.

Jihadists and Islamists accuse Copts of supporting the military overthrow of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in 2013, which ushered in a deadly crackdown on his supporters.

In December, a suicide bombing claimed by IS killed 29 worshippers during Sunday mass in Cairo.

The group later released a video threatening Egypt’s Christians with more attacks.

The bombing of the church within a compound that also holds the seat of the Coptic papacy was the deadliest attack against the minority in recent memory.

A spate of jihadist-linked attacks in Egypt’s restive Sinai Peninsula, including the murder of a Copt in the city of El Arish whose house was also burned, have led some Coptic families to flee their homes.

About 250 Christians took refuge in the Suez Canal city of Ismailiya after IS released a video in February calling for attacks on the religious minority.

Reacting before the second bombing in Alexandria, Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid called the attack in Tanta “a failed attempt against our unity”.

“Terrorism hits Egypt again, this time on Palm Sunday,” he tweeted.

– String of attacks –
Prime Minister Sherif Ismail also condemned the attack, stressing Egypt’s determination to “eliminate terrorism”.

The Cairo-based Al-Azhar, an influential Sunni Muslim authority, said it aimed to “destabilise security and… the unity of Egyptians”.

Egypt’s Copts have endured successive attacks since Morsi’s ouster in July 2013.

More than 40 churches were attacked nationwide in the two weeks after the deadly dispersal by security forces of two pro-Morsi protest camps in Cairo on August 14, 2013, Human Rights Watch said.

Amnesty International later said more than 200 Christian-owned properties were attacked and 43 churches seriously damaged, adding that at least four people were killed.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who as then army chief helped remove Morsi, has defended his security forces and accused jihadists of attacking Copts in order to divide the country.

In October 2011, almost 30 people — mostly Coptic Christians — were killed after the army charged at a protest outside the state television building in Cairo to denounce the torching of a church in southern Egypt.

In May that year, clashes between Muslims and Copts left 15 dead in the working-class Cairo neighbourhood of Imbaba where two churches were attacked.

A few months earlier, the unclaimed bombing of a Coptic church killed more than 20 people in Egypt’s second city of Alexandria on New Year’s Day.

Donald Trump Syria Attack

Moment of Discovery with Ik Anyanwu: Success Equation

  • Happy Palm Sunday friends from all of us at Arise Afrika Magazine.

As we reflect upon the triumphant entry of Jesus  may I share with you some principles that would help you to triumph too

It\’s May sound somehow but it\’s certainly true.

The Zambian company sold their Copper Mines to an outside consortium for 20 million dollars. Because they could not manage it. The company that took over in 3 months made profits of 70 millions. They had understanding of how things works,  took money at the Government expense, they were not going to pay upfront. They simply spread out over a couple of months their payments to the Government. Taking what the Government should have been making and give them .006% from the Copper Mines because they had \”Understanding\” .
When right there people are dying, ignorant, living in poverty , high level of HIV/Aids, yet churches are full.  People are praising God , Africans pray all night .  Prayer is not in the Success equation.

Prayer is in the Revelation equation.  Decision making is in the success equation. You have to make a decision and be sound. Be disciplined and make sure that we are going to get what God has given unto us.
You can be full of the Holy Ghost and yet suffer lack because you are ignorant. For me I will get understanding. It\’s time for Africa to Arise and be counted.
The country of Ghana turned 50. Ghana and South Korea had independence the same day and the same year but look at where South Korea is now.  South Korea are not a Christian Nation.

By nature South Korea are Buddhist.  China, Japan,  Indonesia, Malaysia they are technologically advancing yet they are not Christian nations. China has stated that in the next couple of years over 20 percent Chinese will become millionaires . Over 450 million Chinese would become Millionaires .

It\’s not about shouting \”hallelujah\” neither is speaking in tongues. It is about possessing an understanding of how things work.

This opportunity, Arise Afrika seeks to give to Imolites to educate, equip and empower youths for the future through our training, publications and online forums
