ARISE AFRIKA MEDIA CHAT WITH REV DR BUNMI BABS- CHAPLAIN IMO STATE GOVT HOUSE
Early discovery of identity is the key to recovery– Rev Dr Bunmi Babs
GOOD EVENING SIR, CAN WE GET TO KNOW YOU ?
My name is Dr Bunmi Babs. I am the Chaplain of Imo State Govt House, Director General of Rochas Foundation, Snr Pastor Christ is Risen Ministries International, Founder Christ Foundation, Basically I am a Fellow Charted Economics, a Fellow Institute of Financial Analysis & Investments , Also I have my Masters & PHD in Philosophy Massachusetts University London.
I have a passion for the youths especially when you are coming from a humble beginning in life and when you don’t have anybody to support you. Where there is nobody to look up to even in the family and your environment around you and there is no other person to look up to in life than God. From nothingness, God will raise you to become a voice in your generation. That’s one of my passion. I am amazed when people say “they don’t know anybody, they don’t have anybody”, I feel they are making a lot of mistake in life. You don’t need to know anybody, the greatest person you can know in life is GOD. Knowing Presidents, Governors people are excited, not to talk of the one whose Tenure dose not expire. He is the one you should know. Your ability to know God and what God has called you to do early in life would help you to take you to the next level in life and become distinct. My passion is to help the youths to discover themselves, and know who’s they are and have a proper focus and direction in life
WHAT WAS IT LIKE ANSWERING THE CALL AND STARTING EARLY IN MINISTRY?
Coming from early stages, you must face challenges, but you have to remain focused and keep moving. When it comes to issue of ministry, I started quite early from secondary to the University and waxed so strong in such a way that I became the president of the fellowship and also the SUG president. The mantle feel upon me to preach the gospel at early stage and I fully embraced the vision of God for my life. Soon our fellowship grew from 95 to over 3,000 under my leadership we waxed so strong and it was overwhelming and many people wanted to be part of what we were doing. We face several challenges like I said earlier but then we overcame them all. At that time I used that opportunity to contest for SUG President and won. The secret was that as I was growing up, I observed my Dad. my father was a Pastor before he was called to be with the Lord, I watched him serve the Lord and understand the consequences of not following after God and quickly said yes to God\’s will Plan and purpose for my life. And since then, there is no regret about it. Nothing is as exciting as following after what God called you to do in life.
So when it came to the call to preach the Gospel, I discovered that\’s what God wants me to do and I had to said “yes” to Him and it prepared me to do what God has called me to do. I didn’t attend any Bible School. When you are able to say yes to God in life early it prepares you, but when you don\’t, you would continue to struggle. As you are growing, you have a vision and it\’s very challenging, you can preach the gospel with one suit it doesn’t matter because you are excited doing what God has called you to do.
WE WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAD BEEN THE DRIVING FORCE?
The driving force is the ability to know where you are going early in life. Lack of direction has made a lot of people not to be where God wants them to be.
There is nothing as a man going to Lagos and finds himself passing through Enugu, Okene, Lokeja to Abuja, Keffi, Jos, Bauchi When you know you are going to Lagos. You will continue going without getting to your destination. Lack of direction has made a lot of people to not to have a proper focus in life. Early discovery of identity is the key for recovery. All the days of my life right from secondary school (when you talk of fellowship we must be the first to be there) to University, the first place and opportunity I seek is where I must preach the gospel. When I came to Abuja for my youth service the first place I sought for is where Church of the people working in Aso Rock is. That’s where I must be there. I am a man of many parts. The first foundation and main vision is the call to preach the gospel, secondly I am a businessman and thirdly I find myself in the political arena and it is for a purpose. I have a place in governance. It is not just for playing music that David found himself in the palace. He was playing instrument for the King in that process he has to observe the royal protocol while serving King Saul but the major fact is that I have a place in destiny when it comes to governance. Every aspect of my life I am a pastor, an educationist, Philanthropist and as a student in the school of politics. Thank you
WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE TO THE UPCOMING YOUTHS ASPIRING FOR GREATNESS IN LIFE?
My advise is very simple. One, Let them discover themselves. I have seen people and taught in various dimension how you can get to greatness in life. I have taught: vision, focus, persistence, commitment, courage etc. But I have discovered that the first foundation is ability of knowing where you are going to.
If you are traveling to Lagos, you don’t just enter the car because of the colour of the car, eloquences of the conductor, capacity of the driver, one of the very first question you will ask for is “where is the car going?” If you are going to Lagos and enter the one to Abuja when you get there, you would be stuck there. Before you enter any vehicle, you find out and know whether it is the same place where you are going. And if it is the place you are going, you summon courage and enter. You will be focused in the journey. So also in our journey of life.
The worst tragedy in life is to focus in the wrong direction. I believe that the problem we are having today in the whole world today is identity crisis.
What is identity crisis? Where people cannot properly understand who they are and are able to pursue it. Vision is the key and passion must follow. Look at our model Jesus. He took time to understand the purpose before he started and prepared well and afterwards the whole world has not yet recovered from the impact that he has made in the world today. Understanding that purpose. Having the picture of your future at the right time is the key. Your fist assignment is find your time, take time to understand your purpose. Having a picture of your future (Vision). If you ever know what to do in life and you know how to get there, greatness is inevitable. You cant give vision to yourself. It’s only God that gives Vision. While men gives ambition. Know the vision of God for your life. Any vision that is not given by God would not be sponsored by God. Do you sponsor the project you don’t know? You can wish to do anything in your life that is called ambition and not vision. But the first assignment is to differentiate between the two. Know the Vision of God for your life. I found out that the first thing that brings me closer to people is the gospel. Just like fish cannot succeed outside water. That’s the place they can display their glory. So also I cannot function without this vision.
LOOKING AT THE YOUTHS OF THIS GENERATION, DO YOU THINK THERE IS HOPE FOR A BETTER TOMORROW?
Yes, there is hope for the younger generation. The glory of the later would supersede the former. God has a plan for the youths. We are not JUST a nation but a generation. For that reason, the youths has a better future. God is still working and He wants us to become all that He wants us to become in life. First thing the youths should note is this.
There is something about location in destiny. For God not to allow you to come from America, there is for a purpose. Every destiny is tied to a particular location. And there is no location that is not tied to a Nation generation. Why do we have Jesus Christ of Nazareth and not Jesus of Heaven. Why Abraham of Ur, Elisha of Tishbit, David King over Jerusalem. One thing the youths should know is that you cannot be blessed for a nation that you don’t have a heart for. Most of our people (youths) don’t believe in their nation. Our destiny is tied to our nation. We must love our Country and believe that our nation is going to be great. There is nobody else that God would use to accomplish his purpose and plans for this nation than you and me. So lets celebrate our nation. Let’s not pull down our nation down with the words that proceeds from our mouth. Let’s speak well of our nation, we are ensnared by the words of our mouth. Whatever we say about our nation is what would come to pass. We should bless and not curse. That place we are running to, it’s people that blessed and made that place great. We are ensnared by the words of our mouth. When it comes to prayer, it is the communication between man and God without any man being witness but pronouncement is not a prayer. It’s a communication towards fellow men with God and other beings being witnessing. If it’s God, Men or Satan. Spoken word gets answer faster before prayer. So you don’t know who is saying Amen. That is why we should bless and not curse. There are beings that would carry out your words be it Angels or Demons. They are servants in the realm of divinity.
HOW DO YOU COPE WITH ALL THESE ASSIGNMENTS?
It’s just like you asking a Fish, why are you able to swim and still come back to your location. I was born to do what I am doing and I enjoy it. I have not broken down. I am excited doing what I am doing. The pressure is much but am enjoying it, I am not supervised by anybody but by the vision inside of me. I am not under compulsion. I understood what am doing and am just working on it. If I am not sleeping, I am working.
HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE REMEMBERED?
Anywhere I find myself let me IMPACT people. I was called to raise men and not money. my legacy is the Impact and Attestation. You can’t pass me without being impacted. Let people pass me and know that there is a Lion out there and met in their course to fulfillment of destiny.
MOST MEMORABLE BOOK YOU HAVE EVER READ.
Kenneth Haggin\’s book on VISION. The book x-rayed how you can communicate with God. He reveled more of the love of God towards us and also talked about don’t be unequally yoked with unbeliever. I got to understand it’s not just about the Hindu, Muslim or people from other religion.
Who is the unbeliever in this context? He said that anyone who is not in agreement with your vision. People that don’t believe in your vision. Never be yoked with them.
Who are believers? People who believe in you and what you stand for.
Who are Christians? Christians are those that believe in Christ and what he stands for. Anything you don’t believe in, you cannot succeed in it. I caught more revelation than what he wrote there. Kenneth Haggin sparked my revelational level in life. Where the scripture can become a picture for everyone to operate. The letter killeth but the spirit gives life. We need more revelation that would bring about revolution.
THANK S FOR YOUR TIME; WE BELIEVE THAT DESTINY HAS BROUGHT ARISE AFRIKA MAGAZINE YOUR WAY. WE ARE DELIGHTED TO HAVE THIS CHAT WITH YOU. IN CONCLUSION SIR, WHAT’S YOUR LAST ADVICE TO THE YOUTHS?
Discover who you are and whose you are. Identity crisis has always been the problem to most youths actualizing their destiny. You can get it right. Believe in God, Believe in yourself and believe in others that God has brought your way to help you actualize your vision in life. God bless you.
