Chinedu Onyeizu shortlisted for 2023 Arise Africa Excellence Leadership Awards
Profile of Chinedu Onyeizu
Chinedu was born and bred in Aba. His biological parents are from Obingwa LGA, and his primary and secondary education was in Abayi Umuocham primary school and Ngwa High School respectively.
In 2002, Chinedu graduated top 5% in his class with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Petroleum Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.
He served in Bayelsa State and finished as the 2003 batch A best corps member in the state, as a patriot he used less than $50 per quarter allowance from his national youth service program to plan and coordinate a free eye medical outreach that involved 12 British ophthalmologists in Kaiama, Bayelsa State. Through the project, over 67 persons who had become blind because of cataract were restored sight. The news made headlines on national dailies including the sun newspapers.
In 2006 after NYSC, Chinedu was awarded the best young engineer in West Africa after presenting his work as a PTDF gas research associate with the University of Portharcourt. The award was presented to him by PennWell Petroleum Group, UK, organizers of Offshore West Africa (OWA) conference.
In 2007, Chinedu Joined Chevron Nigeria Limited as a petroleum engineer where he quickly climbed through the ranks, occupying leadership positions with increasing management responsibilities.
In 2010, he worked in Pau, France representing Chevron in a strategic deepwater joint venture development project with Total Nigeria Limited.
In 2012, he was identified as a highflyer and transferred to Louisiana USA where he worked for 4 years as an expatriate technology solution development manager.
By 2016, Chinedu gained admission at MIT – Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA where he finished as a Fellow of the MIT Sloan School of Management.
His research work at MIT on ending fuel scarcity problems in Nigeria using technology and systems dynamics was featured on the MIT Technology Experts forum.
Chinedu also has a master’s degree in strategic planning from Heriot-Watt University, Scotland United Kingdom.
In 2018 Chinedu took leave from Chevron to join politics and contested as the youngest senatorial aspirant of the APC political party in the country.
In 2021, Chinedu retired permanently from Chevron to run his group of companies including CVN Global Links Energy Limited, TechGRATA Limited, Afri-PERA Limited, and Kingsdale Propertied Limited.
In 2023, Chinedu participated in the general elections as the senatorial candidate of the Labour Party in Abia South Senatorial Zone.
Chinedu is a philanthropist – His NGO – The Chinedu Onyeizu Foundation gifts homes, food items and support materials to poor and less privileged widows and women on the eve of every new year.
