IMO FEDERAL REPS MEMBER , RT. HON. DCN CHIKE OKAFOR PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR ASSAULTED GIRL’S WELFARE, VISITS HER IN HOSPITAL
Rt. Hon. Dcn. Chike Okafor, the Federal Representative for Ehime Mbano, Ihitte Uboma, and Obowo Constituency, paid a heartfelt visit to Amarachi Emmanuel, a 12-year-old girl brutally assaulted by her stepmother, Mrs. Blessing Emmanuel. The visit took place at the Imo State Special Hospital in Umuguma, where Amarachi is receiving treatment for injuries inflicted during a violent attack. The case has garnered widespread attention after activist journalist Chidiebube Okeoma brought the girl’s plight to the public eye through a viral video.
Amarachi’s ordeal began when her stepmother assaulted her for eating food without permission. The video posted by Okeoma revealed the appalling condition of Amarachi and her siblings, who have been living in deplorable circumstances. In the video, Okeoma called for urgent assistance to secure better accommodation for the children and ensure their welfare, prompting swift action from Hon. Chike Okafor.
Moved by the harrowing details shared in the video, Hon. Okafor expressed his deep concern for Amarachi’s welfare. “Chidiebube Okeoma, the video you made this afternoon got me emotional, and that is why I am here,” Okafor said during his visit to the hospital. “Please get a decent accommodation for them, and I will pay. I will also be involved in her schooling. Let other Nigerians help so that this girl, her siblings, and their father can have a good life.”
Recognizing the immediate need for support, Hon. Okafor pledged to cover the cost of new accommodation for Amarachi and her siblings, while also committing to assist in their education. He urged other well-meaning Nigerians to join him in providing the family with the resources they desperately need to rebuild their lives. “My involvement should not stop others from helping,” Okafor stressed. “This girl and her siblings need all the help they can get now. Let others support, please.”
Hon. Okafor commended Okeoma for his dedication to advocating for Amarachi and ensuring she receives the care and protection she deserves. Before leaving the hospital, the federal lawmaker made a cash donation to support the girl’s immediate welfare needs, underscoring his commitment to the long-term wellbeing of the vulnerable child and her family.
Amarachi’s story has touched the hearts of many, drawing the attention of both the public and human rights organizations. As more individuals and groups come forward to assist, it is hoped that Amarachi and her siblings will soon leave behind their harsh living conditions and begin a new chapter in their lives, free from the fear of further abuse.
